Don't ask me what this is, I don't know. It might be a large buoy or something, all I know is it was an interesting shape with some strong lights and darks and it jumped out at me. That is how painting is - something speaks to me and off I go. By the way, the dirt that is sprinkled around the top edges is one of plein air paintings little 'gifts'. If your painting gets blown off the easel and lands face down - voila - instant texture! However, the good thing about oils is that once the paint is dry I can pretty much just dust those things right off!

I spent the last 3 days painting plein air at Filoli. Filoli is an early 20th century country estate located in Woodside CA. Normally not opened to oil painters, this was an exception as I was part of a plein workshop taught by Paul Kratter. The workshop was great, and what a treat to paint in such beautiful surroundings!

'A Day's Work' was painted en plein air in Portola Valley, California. My other passion is horses and I managed to combine both loves on this beautiful day by painting among the equines. I shall return!

My other love is horses. Anything horses. Horse smells, horse tack, horse stables, and horsey people are all great things that bring joy to my life. Yesterday as I was driving to my horse destination, I was listening to the news... uhg, however, as soon as I got out of the car, roamed around and breathed in the horse world, all that draining news talk was gone! Here's to way more horseyness - and way less news.

These magnificent trees are loaded with texture and color. As the sun changes its angle in the sky, the eucalyptus' bark turns from brown to blue to orange, quite spectacular!

I painted this little painting the other day with plans to list it on ebay, but my family wants to keep it... I have to agree it would be a great thing for our daughter to have as she grows up. I have started some new work along a similiar theme and will post that in short order. I am also itching to get back to guoache, so keep an eye out for that as well!

This was a new venture for me. First I sculpted the low-relief tile landscape, then it was fired, glazed, and fired again. I had so much fun creating this and am so thrilled with the results that I will surely return to this medium!
